What is Smart Emergency Lighting?

Smart emergency lighting is a modern system for emergency lighting, integrated with intelligent management and monitoring technologies. It provides not only the core function of lighting during emergencies, but also adds many additional advantages and features.

Emergency lighting helps prevent and manage panic movements during earthquakes, fires, and other emergency situations. It is used in all types of public buildings (hotels, shopping centers/malls), hospitals, offices, museums, schools, administrative buildings, warehouses, open facilities, and more.

Version with self-diagnostics (Activa): Save time on testing and maintenance!

Some luminaires are also offered in a version with self-diagnostics (Exiway, Smartbeam, Astro Guida, Quick Signal, Lys). These devices perform their own operational tests. They provide indication if the light source, battery, or device is defective and needs to be replaced. Diagnostics are shown via a diode that lights up in different colors and with a distinct blinking pattern depending on the device’s condition.

Key Features

  1. Smart control and monitoring:
    • Remote control: Can be managed and monitored remotely via centralized building management systems (BMS) or mobile applications.
    • Automatic monitoring and diagnostics: The system automatically checks the condition of luminaires, batteries, and electronic components, and signals any malfunctions.
  2. Energy efficiency:
    • LED technology: Using LED lighting reduces energy consumption and increases the lifespan of luminaires.
    • Automatic shutdown: The system can automatically switch off emergency lighting when it’s not needed to save energy.
  3. Integration with other systems:
    • Fire detection systems: Can integrate with fire alarm systems for automatic activation of lighting in case of fire detection.
    • Security systems: Can be connected to security and access control systems for coordinated actions in emergency situations.
  4. Adaptability and flexibility:
    • Customized scenarios: Allows configuration for different lighting scenarios based on the type of emergency or building requirements.
    • Scalability: The system can be easily expanded or modified based on changing needs.

Advantages

  1. Enhanced safety:
    • Reliability: Smart emergency lighting ensures reliable illumination during emergency situations, minimizing the risk of failure through continuous monitoring and self-diagnostics.
    • Improved visibility: Provides clear and sufficient lighting for safe evacuation and orientation of building occupants.
  2. Operational efficiency:
    • Automation: Reduces the need for manual checks and maintenance through automatic testing and diagnostics.
    • Cost savings: Energy-efficient components and automation lead to significant savings on energy and reduced operational costs.
  3. Regulatory compliance:
    • Standards compliance: Smart emergency lighting systems are often designed to meet local and international safety and lighting standards.
  4. Comfort and convenience:
    • Easy operation: Centralized management and remote monitoring provide convenience for operators and maintenance staff.
    • Flexible solutions: Flexibility of the system allows for personalized scenarios based on the specific needs of each building.

Exiway DiCube

Fully adaptable and scalable guidance system

Part of Exiway

A simple and intuitive local and remote access system for emergency lighting devices, which simultaneously enables automatic testing and integrated monitoring. The system offers scalability and flexibility to meet the needs of any installation in buildings — small, medium, and large commercial premises, including offices, banks, hotels, restaurants, and hospitals. It allows easy and virtually unlimited expansion without changes to the existing DiCube emergency lighting system.

Design. Installation, standards, and stages.
Combining emergency and standard lighting must strictly comply with electrical system standards when designing buildings or other structures.

European Standards
  • EN1838 – Emergency lighting at the European level
  • CEN and CENELEC – Standardization for environments and emergency situations
  • EN60598-2-2 and EN-60598-1 – Specific requirements for emergency lighting
